Leif Ove Andsnes by Ozgur Albayrak

Pianist Leif Ove Andsnes has won international acclaim playing recitals and concertos in the world’s leading concert halls and appearing with today’s foremost orchestras. Also an active recording artist and avid chamber musician, he is the founding director of the Rosendal Chamber Music Festival, was co-artistic director of the Risør Festival of Chamber Music for almost two decades, and served as music director of California’s 2012 Ojai Music Festival. He was inducted into the Gramophone Hall of Fame in 2013, and received an honorary doctorate from The Juilliard School in 2016.

In the 2016–17 season Mr. Andsnes returns to the Boston Symphony Orchestra, undertakes a South American solo recital tour, and joins Marc-André Hamelin for U.S. and European recital tours of music for piano four-hands. Mr. Andsnes’s 2015–16 season included the release of Concerto — A Beethoven Journey, a documentary chronicling his epic four-season focus on the composer’s music for piano and orchestra, which took him to 108 cities in 27 countries for more than 230 live performances. The Beethoven Journey, his acclaimed Sony Classical series with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, was named one of The New York Times’s Best of 2014, iTunes’s Best Instrumental Album of 2012, and BBC Music Magazine’s 2015 Recording of the Year.

Mr. Andsnes has received Norway’s most distinguished honor, Commander of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, as well as the prestigious Peer Gynt Prize, the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Instrumentalist Award, and the Gilmore Artist Award. His recordings have scored eight Grammy nominations as well as international prizes that include six Gramophone Awards.

Leif Ove Andsnes was born in Karmoy, Norway, and studied at the Bergen Music Conservatory under Jirí Hlinka. He is an artistic adviser for the Prof. Jirí Hlinka Piano Academy.
